Who is RUI?

Greetings beautiful spirits out there,

I am RUI~~

RUI is a 20 something Nigerian-American Queen born/raised/residing in Jackson, Mississippi.

  

Let’s get personal for a bit:

I am a graduate of Jackson State University, or known as “TheeILove” by the alumni, faculty, staff, and students. It is an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) at the center of the capital city.

I obtained a B.S. in English.

I have been writing since I was in the 6th grade, and I have been reading intensively since my middle school years.

9th grade was the beginning of my journey to loving English, and I can accredit it to my older brother that used a scare tactic to get me to read more.

He told me this: “If you go to High School stumbling over words, you’ll get teased,” so summer before 9th grade I read like 3-4 books to up my reading skills, ONLY for me to enter class and people still struggling, LMAO! The tactic worked, and I benefited from it nonetheless.

By my 12th grade year, I believe is when I knew I loved it. I knew this, because it’s when I’d say I studied for the first time ever, and it was in my English IV class. I did so well in the class, I received a certificate for obtaining the highest average for my class period all four terms.

Pretty cool right?

Yeah! I’m very proud of it. 🙂

Throughout college (I attended a community college first, then I transferred  to a university), I learned a lot both inside/outside the classroom.

This is February 2018. 10 months post undergraduate, and I felt after plenty of inquires that it was FINALLY the appropriate time for me to take my talents to a blog, and share my post undergrad life, and journey as I am navigating through my 20’s.

My objective with this blog is to be whom God has called me to be, and that’s the assertive, bold, and transparent woman that was deep down within me coming out on occasion, but has decided to walk in her authentic and true path~

My motto since being rebirthed is:

I changed, don’t say I didn’t tell you…..”
